Artist Statement

A window opens into other worlds when I chance upon wild animals going about their busy lives in the midst of what seem to be human spaces. A flush of cottontail rabbits feeding along a bicycle trail in the springtime. The raucous chatter of sparrows in an urban park at dawn. A fox, almost hidden against a red brick wall, in a train station at the evening rush. In these moments, I am reminded that other beings are just as absorbed in pursuing their goals as I am in mine; their societies just as lively and contentious as the human one can be. For a while, my cares lighten and shrink to their rightful size, just one among many.
